Living in a big city I get sheltered from the insanity that is a small town. I have to read about gang shootings, major drug busts, and homicides. I've become so jaded to it that I forget about things like:

"A woman called police at 2:04 a.m. stating she saw a suspicious male character sitting behind a stone wall, across from her home. She wanted to stay on the line until police arrived. She then realized that the suspicious person was actually her son."

or

"A caller reported seeing an intoxicated man walking in the middle of Wood Street at Collins Street. Police determined that the man wasn't drunk, just walking home."

and this too

"A Charles Street resident reported that she was having issues with a rude census taker"

Oh the tribulations of a small town...

Go to Fosters.com and find the Rochester Police Log.

You will have a fun few hours.

Also, that is my hometown.

I have a friend who works as a police dispatcher servicing like 5-6 towns down the jersey shore. One of them is mostly a jewish town, so the calls he get range from

Caller: theirs a suspicious man outside my house

Dispatch: Can you describe what he's doing?

Caller: well he's just walking down the street

Dispatch: well what makes him suspicious?

Caller: well, I think he's black

to

Caller: theirs a pitbull roaming around outside

Dispatch: are you sure its a pitbull?

Caller: yes

Dispatch: do you know what a pitbull looks like?

Caller: well no, but I'm certain this is one

If you think I'm kidding, I have examples. He has a thread on my forum about the best calls he gets. Here are a few

Call #8

Lady call's up and says "There's a black man in my community and we don't allow that here" I say "you don't allow black people in your community?" and she says "no but well...he said he worked for the power company but he was alone" I said "so you don't think he worked for the power company?" she said "no" I say "assuming he was telling the truth why would he need someone with him? The power company does have people who go around alone to check meters or solicit for EZ Green" she says "well all I know is he was a young black guy walking by himself knocking on doors saying he's from the power company" I said ok and transferred her to the police, told the police the situation and the dispatcher says "ma'am what is the man doing other then being black?"

Call #5

Lady calls up and says her female neighbor's next door drunk in a bikini...I say that's not a crime what else is she doing...she says deadpan that "she's driving a backhoe through the fence", I say let me put you into the police

Call #10

So not a 911 call but I took a call from an officer who needed another officer to call him from a department I dispatch....it was a Ptl. Holdenwang looking for Det. Cucci....no lie and I cracked up....when he said he was looking for Cucci I almost said aren't we all

I always love when he tells stories at our meets about the stupid calls he gets.
